Course Description              

Public speaking course is an introduction to speech communication which focuses on the practical skill of public speaking, including techniques to improve speaker confidence, to persuade people, and the use of visual aids to enhance speaker presentations. Civility and ethical speech-making are the foundations of this course. This course prepares students to be successful in typical public speaking situations.

 

Course Outcomes

After completing this course, students should be able to:

  1. Plan and prepare speeches that inform, persuade, or fulfill the needs of a special occasion
  2. Use presentation aids to enhance speeches
  3. Outline speeches in a logical and thorough fashion
  4. Analyze audience and design speeches
  5. Evaluate speeches based on a variety of verbal and non-verbal  criteria

Informative Speech

(Informing the audience about some person, object, process, concept or event to enhance the audience’s understanding of an event or idea)

Persuasive Speech

(Persuading the audience for or against something)

Special Occasion Speech

(Delivering a speech at the party/celebration, a commemorative speech honoring a famous historical person or event)

Sensory Aid Speech

(Delivering a speech by utilizing visual, audio, or other non-verbal tools)
