This course provides introductory course in linguistics and English phonology. In this course the students will have the opportunities to explore the study of language, which is based on the sound system produced by the vocal organs. It covers the properties of human language in contrast with other forms of communication conducted by non-humans, how human produce speech sounds, the properties of human speech sounds in terms of articulatory and auditory phonetics. The pedagogical implications of studying English phonology are also highlighted in this course to prepare the students to become better English teachers.
